The Network Lead System Engineer will provide leadership of the network engineering team as well as technical expertise for managing the LAN and WAN networks.  Management of the network includes all the components relevant to a converged data, voice and video Network and includes routers, gateways, switches, firewalls, load balancers, VoIP call managers, video bridges, scheduling systems and wireless. The position is also responsible for the “hand-on” design, deployment and troubleshooting of the various components of the network.  This position assists with the Director with managing vendor relationships and coordinating purchases. The network infrastructure supports the System Office and 23 colleges with more than 40 locations. The current enterprise network team consists of four individuals, including this lead position.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serves as the Senior Network Engineer and an expert advisor in the development, implementation, and maintenance of a converged communications infrastructure.
  • Develops and maintains the Network documentation and schematics.
  • Performs the research and analysis necessary for keeping current in networking technologies
  • Monitors the network to ensure maximum availability of all core services
  • Responds to emergency or unplanned production outages independent of day or time
  • Contributes to and participates in supporting Governance groups.
  • Develop reports, correspondence and documentation; assists with budgets and projects that impact IT infrastructure.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience with Brocade Switches, F5 Load Balancers, CISCO UCS, Palo Alto Firewalls preferred and BS in Information Technology, Information Systems or Programming. Or 10 yrs of relevant experience that provides the required level of knowledge, skills, and ability to successfully perform the functions of the job.
  • Relevant Certifications preferred (CCIE in any CISCO track) – a preferred, not a requirement.
  • Must be an expert in OSPS, VGP Routing, VOIP Systems,
  • Previous substantial experience managing large complex converged networks
  • Knowledge of current trends and advancements networking technology
  • Experience with Cisco VoIP
  • Experience with Tandberg (Cisco) Video Systems or equivalent
  • Experience with Cisco NOS
  • Demonstrated knowledge of advanced networking practices
  • Proven ability to define and develop solutions based on business requirements
  • Experience in higher education information technology preferred
  • Experience with disaster recovery planning and testing, auditing, risk analysis, and business continuity planning preferred.
